HeinOnline Connection Issues

This section contains known problems and resolutions to common connectivity problems when using HeinOnline.  This page will constantly be updated with new issues and resolutions as they arise.


Q0326091 - IP Authentication is not functioning and you are prompted for a username and password.

If you access HeinOnline via IP Authentication but you are denied access and are prompted for a username and password, please do the following.

1.)    Check what IP Addresses you submitted to HeinOnline.

2.)    If you believe you submitted the correct addresses to HeinOnline, insert the following URL into your browser's address bar.

        http://www.heinonline.org/HeinOnline/address.pl

3.)    Press Enter or click the "Go" button depending on which Internet Browser you are using.

4.)    The IP address shown is the address that the HeinOnline server sees you coming from.  This is your IP address and this is the IP address that should be registered with HeinOnline.

5.)    If the IP address is not registered within HeinOnline, send an e-mail to techsupport@wshein.com with the correct IP address that should be registered.

6.)    HeinOnline Technical Support will verify and register your IP Address and notify you when this is complete.


Q0326092 - Users connecting via a Proxy Server are not able to access HeinOnline and are prompted for a username and password.

With the addition of new HeinOnline servers to control load balancing some users may need their technical department make a small modification to their Proxy Servers.  If this is the case, please make the following DNS configuration change. 

1.)    In the configuration of your Proxy Server there should be a reference to www.heinonline.org or heinonline.org.  These will need to be modified to reference *.heinonline.org
