Abstract
Environmental noise pollution has been a growing problem in recent years. According to the
World Health Organization, about 40% of the European population is exposed to high levels of
noise. The most common source of environmental noise pollution is still traffic. In addition to
human health, noise pollution directly affects national economies, but also the economy of the
European Union as a single market. The aim of this paper is to point out the importance of an
adequate legislative framework as well as the active implementation of environmental
protection measures against noise pollution in accordance with the policy of sustainable
development. Also, the paper analyzes the extent to which economic closures due to the
implementation of epidemiological measures conditioned by COVID-19 have affected the
reduction of environmental pollution by noise.
Keywords: noise pollution, economy, traffic, COVID-19 and noise.
