Practitioners
CHAD BARUCH* AND KARSTEN LOKKEN**
I. INTRODUCTION
The past twenty years have witnessed a resurgence of interest in
Jewish law by American law students, attorneys, scholars, and judges.
Students turn to Jewish law with increasing regularity for writing top-
ics,' and growing interest in Jewish law has led to the establishment of
courses in that field at numerous American law schools. In addition
to a plethora of recent articles focusing directly on analysis of Jewish
law,3 scholars also cite provisions of Jewish law for historical back-
ground and rhetorical effect.4
Editor's note: At the authors' request and in respect of the authors' religious beliefs,
the term G-D is used throughout the article.
