          Introduction: the article deals with cultural policy in the context of the concept 'digital
      cultural heritage' of the global information society and considering the need for legal under-
      standing and regulation of the rapid digitalization in the field of culture. Purpose: to analyze
      the place of digital heritage, the problems of its legal regulation and to formulate recommen-
      dations for improving the system of legal regulation of digitalization in the sphere of culture of
      the Russian Federation, to  identify positive aspects and indicators of the development.
      Methods: interdisciplinary, comparative, axiological and normative methods. The interdiscipli-
      nary approach allowed us to overcome the conventional boundaries between the legal, informa-
      tion and technical, cultural and other spheres in the problem area; the normative method was
