I. INTRODUCTION
After landing a new job, Sarah thought searching for an
apartment in a new city would be an exciting endeavor. However,
she soon discovered that it was more agonizing than exciting- she
lives with a dog and a cat. All the places that she found only allowed
two pets, if any at all, crushing her desire to adopt another cat as a
playmate for her tabby cat. Of the places that allowed animals, most
would not allow dogs; those allowing dogs capped the weight limit
at thirty or forty pounds - a problem for her with a sixty-five pound
dog. Eventually, Sarah rented an apartment that did not inquire
further about the two pets that would be living with her. Though
her dog is breaking the weight restriction and her cat is not
declawed, she took the apartment because the landlord never asked
for verification. A month after she moved-in, management found out
about her dog and cat Sarah was forced to give away her dog and
declaw her cat, or try to find a new apartment and forfeit the deposit
on her current lease.
