    JPML   Hearing
 The plaintiffis in the concussion lawsuit brought by Chris
 Walker and others against the NCAA have agreed with the
 NCAA  to mediation before retired Federal Judge Layn Phillips
 on Feb. 18.

 3  Court:  University Followed   Proper  Protocol  in
    Firing Coach
A Mississippi state appeals court closed the door on the former
head football coach atAlcorn State University (ASU), affirm-
ing a lower courts decision not to take up his claim that he was
unjustly terminated from his position by the university.

4   James   Would   Face  Obstacles   in Showing  Fox
    Discriminated
 Craig James was fired by Fox Sports Southwest. He says it hap-
 pened when Fox Sports learned ofcomments he made during a
 political campaign -People choose to be gay... I think it' a
 choice. I do. Same-sex marriage, ifsomeone chooses to do that,
 that' done. And Gods going to judge each one ofus in this room
for our actions. And in that case right there, they're going to have
to answer to the Lord for their actions.

5   Court  Grants  Summary Judgment to
    University  on Student   Athlete's Breach  of
    Contract,  Due  Process   Claims
A federal judge has granted summary judgment to the University
of Vermont (UVM)  in a case in which the school was sued by a
student athlete for breach ofcontract and Constitutional viola-
tions after he was kicked offthe men' ice hockey team.

6   High  Court  Sides  with U of Iowa  in Assault  of
    Athlete  Case
 The Iowa Supreme Court has held that University of Iowa
 (UI) President Sally Mason was well within her rights to
fire the schools longtime dean of students after he reportedly
mishandled a high-profile 2007 sexual assault case involving
footballplayers.

    Competes In Sports
In the lucrative world of big time college football, universities
continually try to gain an edge over the competition by, among
other things, luring top notch coaches with generous multi-mil-
lion dollar contracts.

12  Latest  Filing Suggests  Oakland   Coach   Was
    Abusing   Players
 Oakland University has responded to a wrongful termination
 lawsuit brought by its former women' basketball coach by sug-
 gesting that she mentally and emotionally abused her players by
 obsessing over their weight and imposing her religious beliefs on
 them.

 12 Judge   OKs  Settlement   in Iowa Abuse   Claim
 An Iowa state court judge has approved a settlement between
 the University oflowa and a former member ofthe women'
 rowing team, which calls for the school to pay $300,000 to a
 student athlete who alleged in a 2010 lawsuit that former coach
 Mandi Kowal' training regimen left her with chronic exertional
 syndrome.
