Recovered Memories: The Current Weight of the Evidence in Science
and in the Courts
5 False memory proponents have challenged the admissibility of
recovered abuse memories testimony on three main grounds:
(1) insufficient evidence that the mechanism of repression exists;
(2) people rarely forget trauma; and (3) methodological weak-
nesses in studies claiming amnesia for trauma and abuse. The
authors of this article reviewed 68 data-based studies to refute such
arguments.

Dual Commitments to Forensic Hospitals and Prisons: Rational
Disposition or Political Compromise?
157 The authors present the first study in both the legal and the
research literature dealing with dual commitments. They attempt to
determine the frequency of such cases, the reason for such disposi-
tions, and the problems caused by them.
