The Dead of Tegucigalpa
Marjorie Agosin
Translated 7y C. Kostopulos-Cooperman
and the dead of Tegucigalpa
on the street corners,
hunched over,
head down,
unprotected from the cold
and the dead,
with their sweethearts in dead flower laden
wagons,
and the mothers of the dead,
naming them
giving them false
birthdays,
baptizing them in the thresholds
and the dead of Tegucigalpa
walking past the
tree lined
shores
with opened eyes,
pining for the encounter
to drink water
to advance toward
the cities
of the living.
