The trade of goods was traditionally done by a hand-to-hand exchange, in which case, if any problem were to arise on the quality of the good or the amount paid, one could instantly manage it with the other party, face-to-face. The problem we face today is that in light of the online purchases we undertake, disputes over the state of the goods received entail complications in ascertaining who is to be held liable. In the United Kingdom, legislation has been introduced to regulate these modern- day scenarios. Sales of goods are covered by the Sale of Goods Act 1979. The Act will only apply when the buyer has not seen the products that have been purchased, and have proceeded with the sale based on the reasonable contemplation of the parties about how the item was portrayed to look.
