                       PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE

    Dear Members:

As we beg4n our 1980-81 business year I would like to inform you
of a few items of interest concerning this year's CALL activities that
I received at the Chapter Presidents' Luncheon during the AALL Conven-
tion this last June in St. Louis, Missouri.

At the Chapter Presidents' Luncheon in St. Louis we discussed the
need for communicating among local chapters, as well as, communication
from the National Association to the Chapters. This subject arose
when we observed that a number of Chapters were offering similar educa-
tion committee programs whereas we could have exchanged ideas, problems
and materials encountered in offering these types of programs.

To alleviate this situation AALL has asked for a representative of
each Chapter's Education Committee to be on the AALL Education Committee.
Our Chapter representative will be' responsible for announcing all CALL
Educational Activities to the AALL Education Committee, and its newly
introduced AALL Education Committee Newsletter. This newsletter will
ser-4e as a clearinghouse for all chapter educational activities.

In respect to local activities, this year CALL has been extended an
invitation by the Illinois Library Association (ILA) to have a pro-
fessional exhibit t its Fall Conference, November 13-16, at the Palmer
House in Chicago. Denise Mahaney, Past President of CALL and member of
the Executive Board, has offered to work on this project in conjunction
with a project of a similar nature on behalf of CALL for Law Day, May 1,
1981. Anyone interested in assisting Ms. Mahaney in this effort may call
her at the law firm of Vedder, Price, Kaufman & Kammholz.

Following the completion of the CALL Foreign Materials Project last
year, the CALL Executive Board, at its meeting the past year, proposed
the creation of the position of CALL Projeci.Director. This Director wil
be a member of the Executive Board and be responsible for screening pro-
jects of interest emgnating from our membership and its cu~mittees, as
well as, suggestions 4hat may be made by the Executive Board. In order
for the Executive Board to make an objective decision on this position
we would like to hear from our membership as to possible projects that ca
be performed under our current committee structure, or projects that can
be carrieV out under special committees. Please feel free to contact me
in regard to any ideas that you may have in respect to the position of
    Project Director.
