Mr. Justice Fortas Honored

The Hon. Abe Fortas (left) and new Magis-

The Hon. Mr. Justice Abe Fortas, the most recent appointee
to the Supreme Court of the United States, became an honorary
member of John Marshall Inn at George Washington Univer-
sity last spring. He joins his colleagues Chief Justice Warren
and Justices Black, Brennan, Harlan, Stewart and White as
members of the Fraternity.
Sixty-three students at George Washington University School
of Law were also initiated at the ceremony. The initiation ban-
quet was held in the Empire Room of the Shoreham Hotel in
Washington with some two hundred persons including Chief
Justice Earl Warren and Justice Hugo Black in attendance.
Justice Fortas was appointed to the Supreme Court in Octo-
ber of 1965 succeeding Justice Goldberg. He is a native of
Memphis, Tennessee, a graduate of the Yale Law School and
is a co-founder of the law firm of Porter & Fortas. From 1942
to 1946 Justice Fortas was Under Secretary of the Interior fol-
lowing several years of service as attorney for various govern-
ment agencies.
