handle is hein.journals/assafl1984 and id is 448 raw text is: LAW OF PATENTS, DESIGNS, TRADE MARKS AND COPYRIGHT COENRAAD VISSER* GENERAL A LEGISLATION The Inventions Development Amendment Act 10 of 1984 (which came into operation on 2 March 1984 (GN 366 GG 9086 of 2 March 1984) ) amends s 4 of the principal Act 31 of 1962 to empower the South African Inventions Development Corporation to turn to the money market to satisfy part of its financial requirements. The exercise of this power is subject to control by the Treasury. The particulars required to accompany a copy of a publication when it is supplied to the State Library, Pretoria, and the appropriate form, have been prescribed in terms of s 2(3) of the Legal Deposit of Publications Act 17 of 1982: GN R1873 GG 9394 of 24 August 1984 (Reg Gaz 3734). The following publications have been excluded from the operation of the Act by GN R1874 GG ibid: (a) almanacs, calendars and diaries that indicate days and months only, with or without photographs or illustrations; (b) children's books without text, ie colouring books, drawing books and cut-out books with a non-South African context; (c) braille versions of publications. While this form of relief seems to be in reasonable health in the Cape (see Network Video (Py) Ltd v Universal City Studios Inc 1984 (4) SA 379 (C)) and Natal (see Aercrete South Africa (Pty) Ltd v Skema Engineering Co (Py) Ltd 1984 (4) SA 814 (D)), it was subjected to an all-out attack in the Transvaal. In our warmer climes, some of them seem to take root as quickly as firmly and spread as virulently as the almost indestructible water hyacinth. Such a one seems to be the so-called Anton Piller order ....
