ABOUT THE AUTHOR: Maureen Hackett, M.D., is an adjunct associate professor at the University of
Minnesota, Department of Psychiatry and an adjunct professor at William Mitchell College of Law. Dr.
Hackett is a Diplomate of the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology in Psychiatry and in the
subspecialties of Forensic Psychiatry and Psychosomatic Medicine. Dr. Hackett is a faculty associate at
Hennepin County Medical Center (HCMC) where she teaches and supervises medical doctors in training on
the consultation-liaison psychiatry service. Dr. Hackett has a private practice specializing in forensic
psychiatry. Dr. Hackett wishes to acknowledge the superb research assistance from Kitty Warner and Paul
