REED* This article examines in detail the new California Legal Remedies Act of 1970 analyzing the meaning, application, and legislative in- tent behind the Act. The author was involved in the preparation of all legislative drafts of the Act and participated in all conferences and hearings as it passed through the legislative process. This is his interpretation of its meaning and intended application. Of particular importance is the detailed analysis of the new proscribed deceptive practices and the ramifications of the new consumer class action provisions. INTRODUCTION The resurgence of the consumer as a beneficiary of legislative largesse in California has begun.
