Gigi Alford is Director of Sport and Human Rights for the World Players Association and
coordinates the Sport & Rights Alliance (SRA), including representing the SRA on the interim
Governance Committee of the Centre for Sport and Human Rights (CSHR). This article is based off
presentations by the authors at the 2019 Connecticut Journal of International Law symposium,
Behind the Games: The Effect of the Olympics on Host Cities, held on April 12, 2019. The authors
