GENETICS AND THE LAW*
In the past decade, interest in the relationship between the law and
developments in genetic science has increased tremendously, as has the
legal literature concerning this area. The following bibliography assem-
bles a significant portion of this literature. It is intended to serve as a
resource guide for scholars and practitioners researching this area. The
bibliography includes references to materials appearing in both article and
book form. While the bibliography is comprehensive, emphasis has been
placed on inclusion of literature appearing in leading books, treatises, and
law journals rather than material appearing in more popular publications
such as newspapers and magazines. However, a variety of sources listed
below provide ready reference to listings of popular materials if these are
needed.
Substantial overlap exists between the range of topics subsumed under
genetics and the law and related areas, such as reproductive technologies.
Thus the bibliography reflects some of this overlap although its content
also reflects a selectivity focused on genetics. References included in the
Science of Genetics listing were selected with the non-scientist in mind.
Thus, introductory materials are emphasized in that area, although more
advanced science references are included.
Listings are arranged alphabetically by author or, if the piece is an
edited collection, a student note, or student comment, by title of the work.
Following the reference entries by individual subject listings is a complete
list of all works included in the bibliography.
