Disha Ravi is a climate activits and a founder of Fridays For Future, a youth-
led global climate strike movement that fights to stop climate change and address
climate justice and equity.
Brown Journal of World Affairs: To start off, for our readers who might not
be familiar with you or your work, would you mind telling me a little bit about
yourself?                                                            49
Disha Ravi: I'm Disha Ravi, and I'm a climate and environmental justice
activist with FridaysForFuture India and FridaysForFuture International. My
main work focuses on collaboration between organizations and ensuring that
the people who are most impacted by the climate crisis have a seat at the table
in climate negotiations and climate conversations. I've noticed it's something
that doesn't normally happen, and I'm working on changing that and, in turn,
changing how climate conversations take place.
Journal: That's amazing work. Would you tell us a little bit about how you first
entered the world of climate activism? What was that initial step like?
Ravi: For me, the first step was actually learning about why my grandparents
didn't have water while I was growing up. It's a very normalized thing here be-
cause millions o people-I believe 60 million people in n ia- on have access
to water. It's common to not have access to water, so no one really thinks about
it twice. Neither did I when I was child, and it wasn't taught in schools. And it
was only much later that there was a pattern that when I was child and we didn't
