The reader will note that the current
issue of the journal contains no Recent
Decisions, the brief case summaries
which were introduced several years ago
to solve the problems presented by cases
which were significant, but not worthy
of the detailed treatment of a casenote.
We decided to discontinue Recent De-
cisions because more editorial time was
required to produce them than was
justified by the finished product. In
our judgment, the Recent Decision
served little, if any, purpose. It was
too brief to contain intelligent analysis
of the topic case and its effect on the
law, and contained too few citations to
be useful as a research tool. Moreover,
the term recent was a misnomer,
since Recent Decisions were published
too long after the cases were decided
(generally from six months to one
year) to make practicing attorneys
aware of recent legal developments.
Finally, many of the cases which were
the subjects of Recent Decisions also
were reported and discussed in the
Annual Survey of Texas Law. The de-
cision to discontinue Recent Decisions
was not taken lightly, and if our judg-
ment concerning their usefulness has
been erroneous, we trust that our read-
ers will make us aware of that fact.
The Barristers, the honorary service
organization of the School of Law, has
initiated five new members: S. David
Blinn, Dan M. Cain, Lyman G. Hughes,
John D. Jackson, and K. Mark Pistor-
ious. Messrs. Blinn, Cain, and Hughes
are members of the 1969-70 Board of
Editors of the journal. In addition,
three Journal editors were elected offi-
cers in Barristers for 1969-70. David
Blinn was named Lord Chief Baron,
Ted Minick was elected Chief Baron,

and Dan Cain was chosen Scrivener.
Four members of the 1969-70 Board
have been named student instructors
for the School of Law's new legal writ-
ing and research program, to be taught
to first-year students. The four are
David Blinn, Lyman Hughes, Ted
Minick, and Gary Rice. The writing
and research program, which tenta-
tively is scheduled to be under the di-
rectorship of Professor Alan R. Brom-
berg, should provide first-year students
with a more realistic and useful intro-
duction to the tools of the legal profes-
sion than did the old curriculum, under
which legal writing and use of law
books were taught as separate courses.
This year, as in the past, members of
the outgoing Board of Editors will
pursue varying careers in varying lo-
cales. For some the immediate future
holds employment with a law firm.
Hugh Blevins, Stan Huller, Fred Marsh,
Dave Snodgrass, Larry Stuart, and Tom
Weeks will associate with Dallas firms;
Bob Bandy will work for a firm in Los
Angeles. Beverly Neblett will clerk
for U.S. District Judge Sarah T.
Hughes in Dallas. Mike Gibson will
pursue a master of laws degree in taxa-
tion at Georgetown University in
Washington, D.C. Rufus Scott also will
be living in Washington, D.C., where
he will be employed by the Federal
Communications Commission. At least
two Board members will become mili-
tary men: Wayne Friesner will join the
Army Judge Advocate General's Corps,
and George Mars the Navy JAG Corps.
Wayne and George are likely to be
joined by a third Board member, Jerry
Ford, who presently is searching for
the most pleasant manner in which to
serve his time.
