I.     Introduction
Have you made the switch to digital? asks the television
commercial warning viewers about the mandated switch from
analog television to digital television. The change, scheduled for

June 12, 2009, will render obsolete television sets that are
unaccompanied by a digital converter box or cable subscription.
While many viewers will utilize converter boxes or subscribe to
cable in order to continue watching their old, analog televisions,
there will also be consumers who purchase new, digital television
sets and consequently seek to dispose of the old.3
Every time new electronic products are introduced other
products   are  left  outdated   or  undesirable,   even   though,
