Bessie Dutton Murray Professor of Law, University of Iowa College of Law. J.D.
1982, Stanford Law School; M.A. 1979, UCLA; A.B. 1978, Princeton University. A draft of
this paper was presented at the U.C. Davis Law Review Symposium, The Future of
Critical Race Feminism, held April 1, 2005. Thank you very much to the excellent editors
and to UC Davis School of Law Professor Angela Onwuachi-Willig, who went beyond the
call of duty as an untenured person to make this event and journal issue possible. We
believe this was the third national symposium on Critical Race Feminism, the first held by
the Iowa Journal of Gender, Race, and Justice in 1997 and the second held by the San Diego
Journal of Contemporary Legal Issues in 2001. Also, we are grateful to Professor Wing's
research assistants Aaron McLeod, Simba Hodari, Julie Giddings, Lindsay Lange, Richard
Reeve, Veronica Reeve, Allison Harvey, Alex Hernandez, and Meredith Stewart who all
collected information in France; and to assistants Tarek Khowassah, Samuel Sadden, and
especially Ozan Varol. Any errors in the French or in translations are ours.
J.D. 2005, University of Iowa College of Law; B.A. 2002, University of Missouri.
