Court in 1993 was a signifi-
cant moment in the recent political
history of the nation's highest court.
No Democratic president had placed a
justice on the Supreme Court in the
preceding 26 years. Prior to Gins-

burg's appointment, the Court's com-
position underwent a significant trans-
formation as conservative appointees
by Republican Presidents Richard
Nixon, Ronald Reagan, and George
Bush replaced the justices who had
served during the Warren Court era.

Rehnquist Courts in many respects
