When Covid-19 spread around the world no one could predict the extension and the impact
on global economy.
As an unprecedent event, the world had to adapt and learn very quickly how to control the
new coronavirus in order to avoid the collapse in the medical systems and in the economy.
Covid-19 anticipate the digital transformation and most of the companies were not ready
for it.
Around the world governments released high number of measures in order to combat and
control the virus.
I am sure that all legal department has never been so busy due to many changes in a very
short time and as a strategic business partner, legal department need to be even more
prepared and proactive to deal with more complex environment or be creative to adjust the
operations for new product as example in Brazil where some companies in beverage
segment volunteer to produce alcohol gel or some companies in clothing segment switched
its operation to the production of masks.
All these changes requires quickly legal directions to ensure that the companies are in
compliance with labor laws, new regulations, etc...
Anticipating trends makes lot of difference.
Based on my experience during the last year, searching and studying the trends to this new
way of working, I decided to share with my colleagues around the globe what I have found
interesting and may help in-house counsel during this challenging time.
I hope this paper can bring you some helpful insights to drive better decisions to overcome
this time.
As we all know that with fast worsening of the crisis the companies were forced to review
and reorganize its operations. The technology has never been more important as of today
to support the demand
The distancing measures and lockdowns imposed by the authorities to combat the spread
of covid-19 accelerated the digital transformation. All areas and segments were impacted
positively or negatively. From the most traditional as the areas of law, from courts to law
offices, everyone had to adapt and learn how to deal with the new needs, not only in to
attend legal requirements but also to be ready to post-covid by developing or improving
some skills to such as : effective communication, critical thinking, tech savvy, emotional
intelligence, strategic foresight, anticipation, these are the most pointed out by the
researches.
The research made by Mckinsey Global Institute confirms the trend, more than 25% of
workers need or will need to adapt to new occupation due to the new way of working.
