ABSTRACT
The goal of this Article is not to provide a psychological
diagnosis, but rather to provide resources and advice to assist
others in understanding Narcissistic Personality Disorder
(NPD). A diagnosis of NPD is not gender specific as both men
and women exhibit narcissistic traits. This disorder often stems
from the narcissist's own damaging childhood and upbringing.
Most narcissists needed to heal but never received or sought
healing. Consequently, the aim of this Article is to provide
awareness and encourage families to establish healthy
relationships. Additionally, it states that judges in family court
should be aware of dysfunctional family dynamics and how the
many forms of abuse and neglect present in court so that they are
able to act in the best interest of the child involved. A healthy
relationship is defined as an interpersonal interaction in which
each person is able to consider and act on his or her own needs,
experience, and point of view, as well as being able to consider and
respond to the experience of the other person.1 Further, this
Article sheds light on the critical problem of emotional abuse and
maltreatment and provides information useful for legal
professionals and spouses to identify and defend against legal
challenges in court.
