Lasprogata* The keynote address commenced with an inquiry: How do we instruct seven billion people how to live in right relationship with mother earth? Our speaker, Oren Lyons, is the Faithkeeper of the Turtle Clan of the Onondaga Nation and Chief of the Onondaga Nation Council of Chiefs of the Six Nations of the Iroquois Confederacy, the Haudeno- saunee. This was how he began with us, a small collective of native and non-native peoples gathered to share and learn from each other in fire ceremonies and meetings over several days at Ghost Ranch, New Mexi- co. I was blessed to be a part of this November 2013 gathering as I have been blessed to be at four others hosted by the American Indian Insti- tute in sacred places in North America since 2006.1 We come as teach- ers, journalists, nonprofit directors, business executives, doctors, legisla- tors, and activists. Each time we gather we have a mission to reflect, discern, and collaborate on ways to make the world a better place for us all, drawing on the knowledge of indigenous leaders who entrust with us their wisdom and spirituality for that important purpose. My purpose in writing this essay is to begin to share the wisdom of the Indigenous Peoples that has been entrusted to me. This is just a nugget of that wisdom to inspire your curiosity and reflection. But what I share here is central to the teachings I have learned so far on my own journey of moral and spiritual inquiry.
