*    55TH CONGREss,               SENATE.                        REPoRT
        1st Session. I No. 1.

SURVEY OF FRACTIONAL TOWNSHIPS 31 AND 32, IN THE
                          STATE OF NEBRASKA.

MAcH 19, 1897.-Ordered to be printed.

Mr. ALLEN, from the Committee on Indian Affairs, submitted the
                                   following

                                REPORT.
                              [To accompany S. 84.]

The Committee on Indian Affairs, to whom was referred the bill
     (S. 84) entitled A bill to establish the official survey of certain lands
in Nebraska, etc., beg leave to submit the following report, and recom-
mend that said bill do pass without amendment.
This is a bill enacting that the United States surveys heretofore made
of the lands described therein be established as official. The papers
accompanying the bill show that the survey made of the lands described
in section .2 of said bill was largely fictitious; and from the report sub-
mitted by the Honorable Commissioner of the General Land Office it
appears that the provision for the resurvey of the same, which shall
result in new plats and field notes thereof to correspond with the actual
field work done by the Deputy Surveyor C. P. Meyer, will result in the
accomplishment of the full purpose of the bill.
In order that the lines in dispute may be definitely settled and the
title to the lands thus quieted, the committee are of the opinion that
     the bill should pass.
Communications from the Commissioner of the General Land Office
and the Secretary of the Interior are hereto appended and made a
     part of this report.

                                          DEPARTMET OF THE INTERIOR,
                                                  Washington, April 17, 1896.
Sim: I have the honor to hand you herewith a report from the Commissioner of the
General Land Office on Senate bill 2749, entitled A bill to establish the official sur-
vey of fractional townships thirty-one and thirty-two north, of ranges six, seven,
and eight west, of the sixth principal meridian, in the State of Nebraska, north and
west of the Niobrara River, and quieting the titles of settlers thereon, and for other
     purposes.
With the changes made as suggested by the Commissioner, I concur in his recom-
mendation that the bill do pass.
          Very respectfully,
                                                    HOKE SmiTH, Seoretary.
      Hon. R. F. PETTIGREW,
Chairman Committee on Indian Arairs, United States Senate.
            S. i 1-1
