The libel sets forth the circumstances connected with
the capture of the rebel cruiser Florida in the neutral
waters of Brazil by the United States steamer Wachusett,
in October, 1864. The capture was made in the bay of
San Salvador, Brazil. The libellant, for himself and
the other officers, and also the crew, of sai4 steamer
Wachusett, asks prize-money from the United States for
this capture. The official communication of Seflor Ig-
nacio de Avillar, on behalf of the Brazilian government,
demanding restoration for the violation of the neutrality
of his country, fully explains the circumstances of the cap-
ture, and well does the testimony of Commander Collins,
already taken in the case. The official communication of
Brazil addressed to the Secretary of State sets forth the
circumstances connected with the act of the Wachusett
in cutting out the rebel cruiser Florida from the port of
Bahia, in Brazil, on the 7th day of October, 1864. It
represents that the Florida was placed under cover of the
battery of the Brazilian corvette D. Jaunana, on the
side next to the shore.  The American consul and the
Brazilian authorities had some previous correspondence
with respect to the confederate cruiser, in which the
latter protested against any interference with her while
she was in the jurisdiction and under the protection of
those authorities.  Notwithstanding this protest the
said American naval vessel, on the morning of the 7th
day of October, 1864, steamed for the Florida as she was
