    Dr. (Smt.) Durgabal  Deshmukh  hardly needs an introduction
to Indian audiences. A Gandhian, freedom fighter, social worker
of international repute, a scholar of Constitution and law, Smt.
Deshmukh  is Hon. Director of the Council For Social Development,
and  Executive Chairman  of  the Population Council of India.
She is Life President of the Andhra Mahila Sabha, Madras and
Hyderabad,  which she set up more than three decades ago. As a
member   of the National Planning  Commission  and  later  as
Chairman  of the Central Social Welfare Board, Smt. Deshmukh
put social welfare activity in the country on a sound, organised
and scientific footing. Connected with numerous national organi-
sations, Snt. Deshmukh  has  upheld the cause  of women   and
children in world assemblies. As an advocate she practised in the
Supreme  Court of India.

    A  research scholar, Miss  Shipra  Sen  did her  M.A.  in
Sociology from the Department  of  Sociology, Delhi School of
Economics.   Her  special interest lies in Political Sociology.
At present she is working for her M. Phil. degree at the Centre
for Study  of Social Systems  at Jawaharlal Nehru  University,
New  Delhi, where the subject of her study is Indian Women's
Role in Politics.

     Dr. Aileen D. Ross is Emeritus Professor of Sociology at
 McGill University, Toronto. A  widely travelled and  brilliant
 scholar, Dr. Ross has been keenly interested in sociological trends
 in Asia, specially in India. She was on the Board of Editors of
 the Journal of Asian and African Studies and has held positions
 in a dozen Canadian and  International research organisations.
 She was Advisor to Alpha Epsilon Delta Fraternity in 1958-64.
 She was the President of the Shastri Indo-Canadian Institute in
 1965-68, and its Director and McGill Representative in 1969-70.
 She visited India in 1960 and again last year, the second time
 on a project on Comparative  Study of Women   in Business  in
 Australia and India. Dr. Ross has written a number of books and
 papers. Her publications on India include The Hindu Family in
 Its Urban Setting, and Student Unrest in India.
