     INTRODUCTION-BIOETHICS AFTER DOBBS

     Bioethics, true to its name, is the branch of applied ethics that fo-
cuses  on ethical questions in biology  and medicine.'   Its aspiration is
to answer  the difficult questions that arise throughout our encounters
with  biology, from  the  everyday-how ought doctors convey infor-
mation  to patients?2-to  the existential-what sorts   of changes  to our
biological constitution would  be good?  which  would destroy  us?3; from
the technical-how should researchers store medical data?4-to the
abstract-what is   a person?  by virtue of what do we matter,  if we do?s;
