Introduction

The accurate measurement   ofjuvenile delinquency  is one of the central meth-
odological issues in criminology. It is possible to measure delinquency using
a number  of methods  including official criminal records, victimization surveys,
structured interviews, and self-report questionnaires.Of the methods available,
the use of official criminal records as an accurate measure of delinquency is prob-
lematic because official records representa small percentage of actual offenses
committed   by juveniles. Structured interview approaches can  also provide a
less accurate measure of delinquency  because of social desirability bias where
