                    ABOUT THE AUTHORS


William  B. Bankston is Professor of Sociology at Louisiana State Univer-
sity, Baton Rouge. His research interests focus on the socio-cultural deter-
minants of crime, particularly violent crime. Currently, he is engaged in
research on intimate homicide, and on  the influence of rapid economic
change on community  crime rates.

Timothy  Brezina  is an assistant professor of sociology at Tulane Univer-
sity, where he teaches criminology, juvenile delinquency, and deviant be-
havior. His research interests include criminological theory, juvenile delin-
quency, deviant adaptations, and rational choice. Recent publications appear
in the journals Criminology, Journal of Research  in Crime and  Delin-
quency, and Justice Quarterly.

S.E. Costanza  is an Assistant Professor of Sociology at Southeastern Lou-
isiana University in Hammond,  Louisiana. His specialty areas are mathe-
matical sociology and geographic information systems. Currently, he is en-
gaged in research on legal handgun concealment in the state of Louisiana.

Elizabeth L. Davison  is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Soci-
ology and  Social Work at Appalachian State University. She is currently
working  on a project to evaluate effectiveness of juvenile mediation pro-
grams.

Andy  Hochstetler is Assistant Professor in the Department of Sociology at
Iowa  State University. His research focuses on criminal decision-making
and criminal identity. He is currently examining the effects of stressful life
experiences inside and outside prisons on the well-being of ex-convicts.

Paul  Jesilow is an associate professor in the Department of Criminology,
Law  and Society, at the University of California, Irvine. He has published
extensively on criminal justice issues, including Myths That Cause Crime
(with Harold  Pepinsky)-a  Seven  Locks  Press book and  winner of the
Academy   of  Criminal Justice Sciences' outstanding Book of  the Year
Award.
