for 1953 were elected by unanimous vote.
John T. Ogden ....................... President
Lawrence S. Mayers .................... 1st Vice-President
Bernhard K. Schaefer ................. 2nd Vice-President
Harold S. Bailey ...................... Treasurer
Newcomb Debevoise Cole ............... Secretary
The Association is pleased to announce the appointment of Frank H.
Gordon as its Assistant Counsel. Mr. Gordon comes to us with unusual
qualifications. He is Chief Attorney to the Committee on Grievances of
the Association of the Bar of the City of New York. For many years, he
was an Assistant United States Attorney for the Southern District of
New York. After a war service of five years in the Army, on his return
from Germany, he was appointed a Special Assistant to the Attorney Gen-
eral. In that capacity, he served principally with the Anti Trust Divi-
sion until he was requisitioned by Hon. John F. X. Mc Gohey, then United
States Attorney, to assist in the indictment and trial, and later the
appeal of the Communist Leaders in the famous conspiracy case before
Judge Medina. Mr. Gordon served as Chief of the United States Attor-
-ney's trial staff in that case, and is thoroughly familiar with Com-
munists, their techniques, and their plans and aims. This familiarity
began in the late thirtys when he participated in the conviction of
Earl Browder for passport fraud.

President Ogden and your Executive Committee, feeling that a prime
need of our Southern District was to have our jurors better informed
and educated as to their duties, and wanting a greater program of mem-
bership participation, organized a Panel Forum which was held last May.
The attendance was excellent.
As Panel Members, we had Judge Knox and Judge Kaufman, Mr. Tuttle,
our United States Attorney Myles Lane and Mr. Shaw. Each represented a
phase of Jury Activity - Judge, Attorney, and Foreman. Our idea.was
that each of these gentlemen would talk for about 15 minutes about the
Grand Jury as he saw it - and then we would have a question and answer
period. Our plans misfired a little. The speakers ran over their time
and for one reason and another, it was 11 o'clock before we knew it.
Therefore, only a few questions were asked. In spite of this, it was
felt that the meeting was a good one; an excellent first effort. The
response of those members present at our Annual Meeting on December 15th,
indicated that another such Forum would be welcome in 1953.
The Annual Meeting of the Association was held at the Hotel Warwick
on December 15th. The attendance, estimated at approximately 175, was
about the same as in recent years, and included association members,
panel members, and guests in equal proportions. Chiefly under consid-
eration was the question of the interference and pressure brought to
