It is with great pride and enthusiasm that we announce the release of the inaugural
issue of the BAU Cyprus Law Journal (BCLJ). As the Editorial Board, we extend
our welcome to you all and express our gratitude for being part of this significant

moment in the journey of our journal.

The BAU Cyprus Law Journal was founded by our university's law society club

with the objective of promoting legal scholarship and offering legal scholars and
students valuable academic legal experience. Furthermore, we aim to furnish legal
researchers with a comprehensive collection of legal sources, reviews, and articles

that will greatly assist them in their legal studies. In addition to engaging our law
students in the practical aspects of the legal profession, our aim is to offer them the
chance to apply their legal skills, including data gathering, legal writing, and
constructing compelling legal arguments. Our objective in every edition will be to

focus our endeavours on portraying the most current legal matters worldwide. As we
embark on this journey, we recognise the importance of creating a platform that not
only showcases the outstanding contributions of legal researchers but also facilitates
meaningful interactions within the legal community.

In this inaugural issue, you will find a diverse array of articles that reflect the
depth and breadth of legal research. These contributions span various legal
disciplines, for providing insights into contemporary legal issues, innovative
perspectives, and scholarly analyses. Jara Samuel writes on the AU's normative

framework and military coups in Africa, and argues what legal and practical
challenges the AU faces. Samuel's paper goes on to argue that the AUPSC
responses to military coups were inconsistent, self-contradictory. Bitret Panan
Yiljwan analyses the link between criminal law and cyber law in different regions

such as Nigeria, UK, US and Canada. Buse Yalaue, on the other hand, sets the light
