         The Federal Insecticide, Fungicide, and Rcdenticide Act
o± 1947, as amended: requires the Enviicrmental Protection
Acency (EPA) to notify foreign governments and aproiriate
international agencies whenever a registraticn or a
cancellation or suspension of the regietraticn of a pesticide
becomes effective or ceases to be effective. The EPA Ezxeares
the not ifications and the Departzent of State t-ansmits theL for
fo-wardinq to host-country officials. Improvements are zeeded in
the a  enciest joint isplementation cf the notificaticn pzogram
in: identifyinq regulatory actions tc he reported; improving
procedures to ensure that date provided in notifications is
complete, concise, and understandable; and ensuriag that
respon.sible fo:eign embassies and oiiicials receive all
notifications an a timely manner. Since 1972, regulatory action
was tdken by EPI on 14 pesticides, but EEA required the
Department to notify foreign nation:; regardIng cnly five of
these. Also, foreiqn nations received very little information on
the status ot pesticides for which notifications were initiatcd.
EiA should: review all pesticide suspensicns and cancellations
to ideatify those of national and internaticnal significance,
compile information on these actions in concise putlicaticns :or
distritution to appropriate nations, and develcp an appropriate
system with the State Department for tiLely and efficiert
