GAO's first re- view, which was conducted at the Department of Commerce Office of Inspector General, focused on whether audits were conducted in accordance with generally accepted government auditing standards and whether investigations were conducted in ac- cordance with professional standards being devel- oped for investigations. The Inspector General satisfactorily complied with a number of professional standards. However, correc- tive actions are needed to bring the Inspector Gen- eral into satisfactory compliance with certain as- pects of other standards.
