handle is hein.gao/gaobabdzp0001 and id is 1 raw text is: '4 . / 1/ W I, BY THE US GENERAL ACCOUNTING OFFICE Report To The Chairman, Committee On Government Operations, House Of Representatives RELEASED Financial Information Lacking On Government Telecommunications Services And Equipment Citing a lack of specific figures on the total amount of financial information for the government's acquisition and useof telecom- munications services and equipment, the House Committee on Government Operations sent a questionnaire to 41 departments and agencies. GAO's review of the responses found that the information obtained was inaccurate, incomplete, and did not main- tain known or expected relationships be- tween payments, expenditures, and costs. However, based on information obtained from other government sources, GAO esti- mated that the government's total expend- itures for telecommunications services and equipment exceeded $10 billion for fiscal year 1981. But this information, as well as the information provided in response to the Committee's questionnaire, is inconclusive and not reliable because it does not contain complete cost data for all types of services and equipment included in the report.
