Minimum Wage Policy Questions Persist

GAO examined the effects of the minimum wage
and found that while economic analysts
generally agree that it reduces total employ-
ment, they do not agree by how much
Although the minimum wage is generally
believed to help the poor, after GAO re-
viewed available statistical evidence, it was
unable to clearly determine how the min-
imum wage affects income distribution

current policy suggested by the Minimum
Wage Study Commission, notably establish-
