               Principles and Standards Stacemen9t(FGISD-80-51)

     It is my pleasure to approve the State-lent of Accounting
Principles and Standards for the Department of Energy. The
Statement, submitted formally by you on March 26, 1980, is
adequate and in conformity with our prescr ed accounting
principles and standards for Federal agencias.

     To maintain the approved status of thE Statement of
Accounting Principles and Standards, planined changes should be
discussed with our representatives and, if ,emed significant,
formally submitted for approval.

     Representatives of our Office will cont'inue to cooperate with
your staff in developing accounting system designs covered by
these approved principles and standards.
