While the supply of credit from the numerous private and public lenders has generally been adequate to meet the needs of qualified borrowers, beginning and marginal operators have had problems getting credit and repaying outstanding loans. In the future, the success of family farms in the United States will depend largely on skill- ful financial management--including the effi- cient use of credit. However, information on sources of credit, interest rates and terms, and how to apply for credit is only available on a piecemeal basis from numerous sources. As a result, farmers are often unaware of the differences in credit available. This can limit the creation, survival, and efficiency of family farms.
