Document S/2003/529, dated May 7, 2003). Among other things, this agreement obligated the Israelis and
Palestinians to undertake a series of coordinated steps to disengage Israeli troops from areas in the Palestinian
territories occupied after the 2000 intifada and replace them with consolidated and retrained Palestinian Authority
(PA) security forces operating under the direction of the PA Interior Minister.
