      reqv.esting our decision cm to whether you may ccrtify for paysant a
      v6ucher presontod by Itr, Stephen Aeflitch representing a claim for
      resiburseaent of expenses incurred incident to occupancy of temporary
      quarters at Los Vining, California, upon change uf offLial duty
      station.

          You question the legality of payment of these expenses during the
K-    lOeday period, April 16, 1972, throu.h April 25, 1972, because this
      represents an uctenslon of tiUu beyond an lultial 30-day period jfl-a
      nediataly following tranofer for which fir. Fitch has been reibursed
      under provisions of section 8 of Office of Vtnageuent and budget
      Circular No. A-,C,

          Subsection SVZa(a)(3) of title S. United States Code, provides
      in pertinent part c follows:

                (3) Bubatistenea expenses of the employee and
          his Immediate ftnily for a period of 30 days while
          occupying temporary quarters when the now official
          station is located within the United States, its
          territories or possessions, the Comuonwealth of
          Puerto Rico, or the Canal Zone. The period of
          residence in temporary quarters nay be extended
          for an additional 30 days when the employee moves
          to or from flhwai, Alaska, the territories or pos-
          sessions, the Cconwealth of Puerto Rico, or the
          Canal Zone.   *

          The statutory authority limits rvinbursement of temporary quarters
     subsistence expenses to a period of 30 days except when transfers are
  (}ad, to or from ares noncontiguous to the continental United States.
