J f the publick afair: of thu Common-weal, and being fenfble of many
humbling Providece, of the Lord, wherein doe appear no fma
Tokens of hi4 frowns towards ut, whome he hat h fo fgnaly owned for many
yeare;, to the juft admiration of Stranger:, a well a of oar felves, and
that now by our unfuitable walkings, and unanf*irable, returns we [hould provoke him
to threaten su with loofening the bridle of the Hathen that are neighbouring to n. Whicl
in con junflion with many other affli&ing Dipenfations of divine Providence, doth mnifer
jiff ground to fear leaft the anger of God be kindled againft te ,
Do commend to all the People of this lurifdition as their indubitable duty, feri-
oufly to confider thereof, and to judge our frlves for all thofe many fins and evills
that doe abound among us, to the difhonour of God, and our Profetfion of his great
Name, and to implore his Compaffions to be towards us, freely pardoning all our
Sins and Tranfgreflions, and that he would give us Repentance for the fame, and turn,
his People again unto himfelf, to feek the Lord God of our Fathers withall our hearts
and that his favourable prefence may be with us, bleffing this prefent Expedition
for rebuking the rage of the Heathen, lengthening out our Peace, and bleffing the
fruits of the Earth, that we may yet further experience his goodnefs towards
us, And for that end doe nominate and appoint the 29th. day of this Inflant une
to be kept as a day of Humiliatin and Prayer ; and doe order that all the Minifters
and People of this Ju-rifdidion refpedively attend and keep the fame; and where there
Thall be any failure for want of feafonable notice, that the 8th day of the next Moneth
be by them kept as a day of Humiliation and Praler, unlefs the Providence of God
(ball otherwife eminently divert, and give us jufi caufe to turn the fame
into a day of Praife and Thank-giving.
