         BE SPEAKER AT

      ANNUAL DINNER
   Robert J. Farley, popular Dean of the
 University of Mississippi Law School until
 his retirement from that post this past June,
 will be the principal speaker at the Rhode
 Island Bar Association Annual Dinner to be
 held at the Colony Motor Hotel, 1150
 Narragansett Boulevard, Cranston, on
 Monday, October 14, 1963.
   Dean Farley is well known nationally for
his quick wit as well as his legal acumen
and  long experience as an educator. He
recently was picked as a panelist to appear
with Nicholas deB. Katzenbach, Deputy
Attorney General, Washington, D.C. and E.
G. Marshall of the popular TV Defender
series, at the meeting of the General Practice
Section of the American Bar Association in
Chicago  in August. The Chairman  and
presiding officer of the General Practice Sec-
tion meeting was John D. Randall, a Past
President of the ABA.
   While eligible for, and accepting, retire-
ment from his post as Dean of the School
of Law at Mississippi, Dean Farley is far
from  retirement personally. He is now
assuming new duties at the Law School at
the University of Florida.
   Rhode Islanders can be assured of an
interesting and informative address from

        REPORT ON ABA
    MEETING IN CHICAGO

   With approximately 7,000 lawyers from
 all over the United States, and from foreign
 countries, and about 7,000 of their wives
 and families, including 20 lawyers from
 Rhode Island, the American Bar Association
 meeting in Chicago, August 12 to 16, was
 one of the largest and most active in the
 history of the organization. There are now
 more than 114,000 members of the Ameri-
 can Bar Association.
   Meeting in Chicago were the General
Assembly of the Association, the Board of
Governors, the House of Delegates, 19 Sec-
tions, many Association committees, and a
group of affiliated organizations including
the American Judicature Society, the Ameri-
can Law  Student Association, the Nafional
conferences of Chief Justices, Trial Court
Judges, Municipal Court Judges, Court
Administrative Officers, Commissioners on
Uniform  State Laws, Bar Presidents, Bar
Executives, the Judge Advocates Associa-
tion, the National Association of Women
Lawyers. Alumni of 26 law schools had
meetings as did 4 legal fraternities and
sororities. In all the organization of the
American  Bar Association, not including
the auxiliary organizations, includes of
about 500 committees. In Chicago, in all,
there were more than 600 separate sessions
