AMERICAN BAR ASSOCIATION MEETING

  Fourteen members of the Rhode Is-
land Bar were registered in attendance
at the  84th Annual Meeting  of the
American Bar Association at St. Louis
during the first part of August. That
term Annual Meeting no longer con-
notes a gathering in one public hall, as
it did when a few lawyers met in Sara-
toga to organize ABA in 1878. Of the
102,000 members of ABA  about 10,000
were in attendance in St. Louis for the
purpose of attending a variety of ses-
sions. The printed program included
527 different meetings of various sec-
tions, special committees, groups, etc.,
not including a very elaborate social
program arranged by the lawyers of Mis-
souri as hosts Besides the meetings of

ABA  and its sections there were meet-
ings of the Commissioners on Uniform
State Laws, National Conference of Bar
Presidents, National Conference  of
Chief Justices, American Judicature So-
ciety, American Law Student Associa-
tion, National Association of Women
Lawyers, National Conference of Bar
Secretaries, National    Conference   of
Court Administrative Officers, and many
meetings of law school alumni groups
and legal fraternities and sororities.
  There were five sessions of the general
assembly, open to all, including the an-
nual dinner. Principal addresses were
delivered by the Honorable Vivian Bose
of India, the Honorable Donald Mc-
Innes, Q. C., President of the Canadian
Bar Association, the Honorable Charles
P Whitaker, U. S. Supreme Court; the
Hight Honorable Lord Evershed, Master
   the Rolls, London. The new president
   John  C. Satterfield of Mississippi,
   ) has done  such notable work as
   irman of the committee on the ec-
   omics of the bar. The president-elect
   Sylvester Smith of Newark, New Jer-

   use of Delegates in six extended ses-
   ns with more than 100 items on the
   enda. In continuous attendance were

Island Bar Associaation Delegate.
