RHODE ISLAND LAW JOURNAL OCTOBER, 1952

With this Volume 1, Number 1, Rhode
Island Bar Association is pleased to an-
nounce the commencement of the publi-
cation of this Rhode Island Bar Journal.
It will be published each month, except
during the summer season. It will be
delivered without additional cost to all
members of the Rhode Island Bar As-
sociation and the subscription price will
be included in the annual dues.
The Rhode Island Bar Journal is dedi-
cated to the interests of the members
of the Rhode Island Bar Association
and, in keeping with the traditions of
the bar, to the public interest.
For some time to come the Journal
will of necessity be brief and concise.
As time passes and experience increases
and advertising revenue grows, it is
hoped that the publication will likewise
expand in size and ambition and find
increasing means by which it may be
useful and intresting to its readers.
We shall publish digests of all deci
sions of the Rhode Island Supreme
Court, not as a substitute for reading
the opinions in the Atlantic Digest Ad-
vance Sheets, or elsewhere, but to pro-
vide notice and ready reference to the

law as laid down by our highest court.
We shall publish brief reference to
tax matters, again not as a substitute
for more complete and useful publica-
tions, but to give additional emphasis to
things which most members of the
Rhode Island Bar Association will find
interesting and helpful.
We shall endeavor to keep our mem-
bers posted on pending legislation on
matters of special interest to the bar
and will publish a list of laws passed by
the Legislature in respect to such mat-
ters as soon as the General Assembly
has adjourned. The Journal will keep
itself out of partisan politics, but as a
legal publication will endeavor to main-
tain a keen and critical interest in the
laws and in those who pass, administer,
enforce and interpret the laws.
We shall publish reports and recom-
mendations of officers and committees
of the Rhode Island Bar Association so
that the members will be kept better
advised of what is being considered and
done in their behalf and so that they
in turn may advise their officers and
committees of their suggestions and
recommendations.

  We shall publish appropriate infor-
mation concerning calendars and ses-
sions of our courts. We invite the
justices of the Supreme Court and the
Superior Court, the judges of the Fede-
ral Courts and the judges of all other
Rhode Island Courts to make use of
these columns for such notices, an-
nouncements, instructions and requests
as they may wish to direct to the mem-
bers of the Rhode Island Bar Association
from time to time.

  We cordially welcome and invite
letters to the editor and contributions
of all sorts, but because of the modest
space available, we must reserve full
editorial rights of revision and exclu-
sion. We welcome suggestions for the
improvement of this publication so that
it may become increasingly more in-
teresting and useful to its readers.

  Notwithstanding this modest begin-
ning, we have high hopes that some day
the Rhode Island Bar Journal will be
worthy of its name. In the meantime,
we hope that we may have your indul-
gence and encouragement.

                   ARTHUR J. LEVY

      JAMES A. HIGGINS
President of R. I. Bar Association
