The Chancellor pledged help to
many to whom fate has not been kind
in Philadelphia: the poor, the elderly,
the disabed,. the homeless and victims
if domestic abuse. When it comes to
helping these people, he said. we
must begin by thanking those lawyers
who have set the highest standard of
service the leaders of our public-inter-
est bar Your good acts add to the pres
tige of all Philadelphia lawyers.
Devine said that even though a
recent survey of Philadelphia lawyers
indicates that attorneys have increased
the hours they spend doing pro toim
work by 25 percent since 1990. the

Board OKs committee resolutions,
honors its outgoing members, reps

The Ioard of Governors adopted
resolutions from the Minonties in the
Profession Committe and the
Workers Coimpensation law Section at
its Dec 21 meeting. Also at the meet-
Ing, the Hoard honored 1995 Bar
Chancellor Abraham C. Reich as wet

sentatives who fulfilled their terms of
oflice last year

endorsement of the Minorities in the

Profession  Committees  Iirst-Year
Minority Clerkship proposal
Committee CueChair Amy E.
Wilkinson presented the resilution to
the Bioard She said the proposal can
help law firms and corporate legal
departments meet the aims of the
Association's Statement of Goals for
Increasing Minority Representation
and Retention,
Specifically, the proposals purpose is
to assist local legal employers in their
efforts to increase the number of
minority lawyers they hire and retain.
Also, the proposals developers seek to
expose minority law students to the

work, requiremensi and , ultur, -I
potential legal empluyers
Under the proposal. minority stu.
dents attending the Dickinson School
of law. the University of Pennsylvania
Law School. Rutgers University law
School in Camden. Temple University
law Schoil, Villanova law School and
Widener School of law would be elgi-
ble for the clerkships.
Screening commitres to be estab
lished at cach school then would evalu-
ate all applicants resumtes. law school
and undergraduate transeripts, writing
samples, personal statements and rec-
