Our State Bar is a public body cor-
porate. The Supreme Court in adopting
rules concerning the State Bar of Mich-
igan wisely provided in Rule 1, among
other things, that it shall aid in pro-
moting improvements in the administra-
tion of justice and advancements in
jurisprudence.
The Supreme Court recently has taken
a very active interest in this field.
This entire issue of the Journal is
devoted exclusively to the very detailed
report of the Joint Committee on Mich-
igan Procedural Revision. This commit-
tee, created and acting as a joint
committee of the Supreme Court, the
State Bar of Michigan, and the Legis-
lature, has been working diligently for
over two years in reviewing court pro-
cedures, and now submits its recom-
mendations to the bar.
The Supreme Court is in the process
of holding area meetings for circuit
judges throughout the state. It also in-
vites all lawyers in given areas to meet
with its members to analyze and discuss,
and to offer suggestions to the proposed
revision of the court rules.
If we are to recognize our obligations
and perform our duties as members of
the bar, we should make a careful study
of the proposed revisions and attend the
meeting in our area. It is well recognized
that where changes are needed, they
should be made, if we are to keep pace
with today's problems. The court and
this committee well deserve our expres-
sion of appreciation for the excellent

work that they are doing for the ad-
vancement and improvement of the ad-
ministration of justice.
The creation of a court administra-
tor's office and the revision of appellate
procedure are further evidence of the
progress being made. Changes made in
court procedures may not be perfect
when they are first adopted, but they
are a great step forward.
Last summer I attended a conference
in Washington on court congestion in
the federal courts. It was interesting to
learn that many of the recommendations
made for use in federal courts had al-
ready been established and put into
practice in our Michigan courts. In fact,
we are one of the states which leads
in court improvement and in the admin-
istration of justice. It is a healthy pic-
ture. Such activity on the part of our
bench and bar keeps our judicial branch
of government at a high standard. In
Liv;ng under Law, that is our respon-
sibility.
