*New State Bar Journal
AFTER A COMPREHENSIVE REVIEW of the State
Bar Journal's editorial direction, content and format, the
Committee on the Journal submitted a detailed report
which was approved by the Board of Governors last Sep-
tember. The report recommended restructuring editorial
control and numerous other revisions all designed to
achieve a top quality, more readable journal to keep mem-
bers of the State Bar up to date professionally and or-
ganizationally. Its goal is to publish a lawyers' journal;
its primary standard will be what is of interest and useful
to practicing lawyers.
One of the major recommendations was to reorganize
the Committee which would then assume major editorial
responsibility, and for the Chairman of the Committee to
be Editor of the Journal. This will be the first time the
Journal has had a lawyer as its Editor. The objective of
these steps is to make the Journal better serve the desires
and interests of its readers, the members of the State Bar.
To this end editorial revisions will be incorporated dur-
ing the next year-bringing a greater accent on feature
articles, more substantive law departments, added how-
to-do-it pieces, an expanded letters-to-the-editor depart-
ment and similar improvements. To accomplish this, we
solicit suggestions, articles, letters, criticisms and help
from practicing attorneys throughout California; com-
ments or volunteer assistance can be directed to the Editor
or to any member of the Journal Committee.
This issue includes a number of changes in format and
layout, including the larger page size to accommodate
double-column printing. Other changes have been incorpo-
rated in each issue during the past year under the guid-
ance of Bernard M. Bour, the Public Affairs Director of
the State Bar. To the Board of Governors, Bernie Bour,
and our printers, the Committee owes thanks for their en-
couragement and cooperation. Now-with the sine qua
non of contributions and help from our members-many
more changes and improvements in the content and qual-
ity of the Journal are in the works and will soon be forth-
coming.
