No, they are not searchable. Our PDF files are like photos of the pages from a book; it is an actual image, not typed text. There are third-party programs that will convert a PDF into a WORD document, but only the text will be converted and none of the formatting. You may also click the "View Text" button above the article in HeinOnline and get a raw unformatted text version that can be copied and pasted into any word processing file such as MS Word. You can also download the article as a Text document and then copy and paste the unformatted text into a word processing file. Or, you can download the document as a PDFText file that will generate a PDF of the raw unformatted text and open it in a PDF Reader. From your PDF Reader you can use the search command to find a term.

Here is an example of the URL syntax which will take you to a specific page, of a specific volume, of a specific journal in HeinOnline:
http://heinonline.org/HOL/Page?handle=hein.journals/hlr4&collection=journals&page=45
This particular URL will take you to page 45 of volume four of Harvard Law Review (which is an article by James B.
Thayer entitled "The Burden of Proof"). The items in the URL you need to adjust are as follows: "hlr4" - The number "4"
indicates volume four (do not use ANY leading zeroes). A complete list of HeinOnline
journal titles codes can be downloaded here. "&page=45" - indicates you
want page 45 in the volume specified. (Again, no leading zeroes. You can also specify roman numerals in this field.)
