Coverage is from the first issue published for all periodicals and goes through the most-currently published issues allowed based on contracts with publishers. Therefore, in some cases the current issues are available, but generally a user will notice a one-volume delay. Searching can be done by title or author name, as well as full-text searching of the collection or select periodicals. Date ranges may also be entered to narrow search results. Sub-collections of the Law Journal Library are also available for those institutions wishing to subscribe to fewer periodicals.

The Harvard Research in International Law was originally published in the American Journal of International Law between 1929 and 1939. The Harvard Research was the brainchild of Manley O. Hudson, the Bemis Professor of International Law at Harvard Law School, and the first chairman of the International Law Commission (1949-53). The various advisory boards that were assembled wrote draft conventions on several topics over a 10-year period.
