Order 79-10-1

                      UNITED STATES OF AMERICA
                      CIVIL AERONAUTICS BOARD

                        WASHINGTON, D.C.

                   Issued, Under Delegated Authority
                           October 1, 1979

Notice of intent of

       PIEDMONT AVIATION, INC. DOCKET 34934

to suspend service at New Bern/Morehead:
 City, North Carolina

ORDER EXTENDING REQUIREMENT TO PROVIDE SERVICE

By Order 79-8-177, August 31, 1979, the Board required Piedmont
to continue to abide by its certificate obligations at New Bern, North
Carolina, for thirty days, through October 1, 1979. During thisperiod
of time we have been seeking a replacement carrier to provide essential
air transportation at New Bern.

Section 419 of the Act provides that a carrier may be required to
provide service to a point for successive periods not to exceed thirty
days at a time while the Board seeks a replacement carrier. Since it
appears unlikely that we will be able to find a replacement carrier to
meet the essential air service needs of New Bern before October 2, 1979,
we will extend the requirement that Piedmont provide the service
specified in Order 79-8-177 for an additional 30-day period, through
October 31, 1979.

     ACCORDINGLY,

     1. We order Piedmont Aviation, Inc, to continue to abide by its
certificate obligations at New Bern/Morehead City, North Carolina, as
specified in ordering paragraph 3 of Order 79-8-177 for an additional
30-day period, from October 2, 1979, through October 31, 1979, or until
a fit, willing, and able replacement carrier is found by us to be capable
of inaugurating and maintaining essential air transportation at New Bern/
Morehead City, North Carolina, whichever occurs first;

2. We will serve a copy of this order on the Mayors of New Bern and
